BDA-3 External DAC

The Bryston BDA-3 is a world class DAC (digital to analog converter) that is packed with the perfect mix of features making it an essential part of your digital audio chain. Use diverse audio sources such as Bryston's BDP digital music players, computers, music servers, and CD players to get the most accurate and superb sounding digital playback currently available. The BDA-3 is a magnificent DAC best suited for systems where high performance is desired.

The BDA-3 delivers superb sonic performance through re-sampling and re-clocking of the digital input signal. With the exception of user-selectable up-sampling, the BDA-3 doesn't convert anything to another format or re-sample at a non-native rate. The most notable difference between the BDA-2 and BDA-3, in addition to PCM playback capable of 384kHz/32 bit resolution, is that the BDA-3 is fully DSD enabled. The BDA-3 can decode up to DSD-256, through asynchronous USB inputs, and accepts SACD input via HDMI. The BDA-3 incorporates 10 separate inputs which include four 2-channel HDMI, asynchronous USB, AES/EBU, TOSLINK, and digital coax. Additionally, the network module which facilitates control via TCP/IP and RS-232 makes the BDA-3 a must for modern home automation. Its Sound ?

July 2016

"It took me almost no time to realize that the BDA-3 will hold great appeal for those listeners who place transparency and neutrality at or near the top of their lists of sonic priorities. With regard to transparency, this DAC was textbook Bryston: It sounded exceedingly clean as it highly resolved detail. As I continued to listen to it, I found myself pulling out my better recordings, just to hear how good they sounded through it. Furthermore, because it had little or no character of its own, the BDA-3 tended to take on the personality of whatever I was playing at the time, serving as a neutral conduit for the music.... a highly accomplished DAC that can easily hold its own against far more expensive competition. The most full-featured DAC I’ve encountered, it offers myriad connections for just about any digital source you might have. With four HDMI inputs and the ability to play recordings of almost any resolution, Bryston’s top DAC model distinguishes itself from its competition. And there are converters at multiples of the BDA-3’s price that don’t come close to it in terms of flexibility. But more important than any of that, the BDA-3 sounds transparent and resolving, always remaining faithful to the signal it’s fed. Although I don’t always succeed, I try to avoid using hyperbole in my reviews; other than resulting in colorful prose, it doesn’t, I think, ultimately benefit the reader. But the Bryston BDA-3 requires no hyperbole. I’m certain that its many strengths, both sonic and functional, will find it lasting homes in the systems of many music lovers, and I don’t think it needs any stronger endorsement than that"-Philip Beaudette Soundstage!HiFi.com.

BDP-2 Digital Player

The Bryston BDP-2 is a dedicated player for high resolution digital audio files. Employing a modified Linux OS optimized to provide the highest quality audio performance, the BDP-2 will play high resolution audio files (up to 192k/24b) from digital storage devices without compromise. The BDP-2 features an improved power supply, custom Intel Atom powered motherboard, additional input options, and eight times more system memory than the BDP-1.

Now included is a new proprietary Integrated Audio Device card created in-house which provides improved performance, integrated output and sound processing, and is powered directly by a high quality linear power supply.

Inputs: 6x USB 2.0, 1x eSATA, 2x Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45)
Outputs: SPDIF (BNC), AES/EBU (XLR)*, USB**
Control: 2x RS-232 (DB9)
Audio Formats: AIFF, FLAC, WAV, MP3, M4A, OGG

 Features:
  • Dedicated high resolution digital audio player
  • Playback from USB flash drives, as well as USB and eSATA hard disk drives (HDD)
  • Custom Intel Atom Powered Motherboard
  • Eight times more system memory then the BDP-1.
  • Improved power supply delivering over 5 amps.
  • Multiple control options (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Android OS, and PC)
  • User upgradable firmware
  • NAS Connectivity supported
  • UPnP/DNLA Server supported
  • Requires external DAC (see External DAC in Digital Audio)**

"The BDP-2 Digital Player is a technological tour de force that bridges generational divides: between the Old World CD player and the New World of high-resolution files and music-library management. The BDP-2 performs the same function as a CD transport, but plays data files from removable USB storage media at their native resolution and in a multiplicity of file formats. Compared with the BDP-1, the BDP-2 incorporates the same digital audio circuitry, but incorporates a more powerful system board and a correspondingly heftier power supply. Processor speed and memory capacity are both increased. Connectivity is expanded to include an internal SATA connection, an eSATA port, two gigabit Ethernet ports, and six full-current USB 2.0 ports. The Bryston BDP-2 doesn’t merely “sound better,” the experience of hearing music through it is qualitatively different. It plays music with unprecedented purity." TAS, August 2016

BLP-1 Turntable

Never say never. Even a year ago, we said we would never build a turntable. What changed? While developing the new phono preamplifier models, the wide bandwidth and low distortion of our new gain stages reminded us of how breathtaking and fresh ‘high resolution’ vinyl playback can be. So we turned to the source.

Each feature in the BLP-1 Turntable represents an effort to engineer remarkably accurate vinyl playback by holding exceptional speed stability and mitigating resonances. Included with the BLP-1 Turntable is the Bryston BTP-1, a Bryston designed pulse width modulation power supply which powers the BLP-1 motor and holds it at an exceptionally accurate 33 1⁄3 and 45 RPM.

Features:
  • Tonearm featuring a seven-segment titanium arm tube with integrated headshell, is virtually immune to cantilever borne vibration
  • Belt drive with an on-board PWM synchronous low speed / high torque motor achieves perfect belt tension and coupling to the platter without added noise
  • Dense 35mm thick Delrin® platter with integrated record mat, damps non-musical vibration yet preserves incredible detail
  • Innovative hardened carbon-steel spindle and ultra hard bronze bearing polished to 0.02mm tolerance

  • Unique vented plinth both eliminates platter turbulence and prevents vibration from reaching the bearing
  • Thick low-resonance acrylic dust cover
Included:
  • BTP-1 power supply
  • Record clamp
  • Tonearm cable
  • Three year Bryston warranty

BP-2 Phono Preamplifier

Bryston's new BP-2 phono preamplifier applies our extraordinary low-distortion, wide bandwidth amplification to your record collection. Available in either MM (moving magnet) only or MM/MC (adds moving coil), the BP-2 is a perfect match for most available cartridges today. Both versions include switchable capacitive loading for use with moving magnet cartridges.

The MM/MC version adds a pair of ultra low distortion, wide bandwidth step-up transformers (the same ones used in our TF-2) to add compatibility with low output moving coil carts. The transformers can be factory wound for an additional 20dB or 31dB of gain.

Power the BP-2 from your existing Bryston MPS-2 DC power supply or from the new PS-3 DC power supply.

Inputs: 2x RCA, 1x Turntable Ground
Outputs: 2x RCA

Features:
  • MM gain is 41dB, MM/MC-20 gain is 61dB, MM/MC-30 gain is 72dB
  • Switchable capacitive loading between 100µF and 400µF for MM cartridges
  • Exceptionally flat frequency response +/-0.1dB 20Hz-20kHz with inverse RIAA EQs
  • Powered by outboard Bryston MPS-2 or Bryston PS-3 DC power supply
  • All steel chassis and top
Physical:
  • 2.75" H x 5.7" W x 8.25" D
  • 57mm H x 145mm W x 210mm D
