Harbeth was founded in 1977 to bring the BBC's pioneering loudspeaker designs to the serious listener. Several generations on, today's Harbeth speakers are the product of the longest-running science-based loudspeaker research program ever undertaken

Their latest model is the Remarkable :
Harbeth 30.1 Domestic Monitor pictured to the right:

The upgraded Monitor 30.1 was introduced  in April 2012, Harbeth's 35th anniversary year and is already setting the High End Audio World ON ITS EAR!
Using the RADIAL2™ mid/bass drive unit from the flagship M40.1, a newly refined SEAS tweeter and a redesigned crossover made possible thanks to advances in engineering simulation technology. These changes have resulted in a more open sound, a smoother response with wider, more even dispersion which means more flexibility over stand height and an enhanced listener experience than its highly regarded predecessor even off axis.
What was said in 'Jazz Times' Magazine on the M30
is  that much truer when applied to the M30.1:

"The M30s are, excuse the expression, awesome.. Harbeth have produced a line of loudspeakers that are very resolved and analytical and transparent, but also very rich. They don't exemplify the dichotomy the audio world has set up that claims that you can have transparent, resolved sound or a rich, musical speaker, but not both qualities in the same product. The Harbeth speakers put a lie to that. The Monitor 30s can anchor a hugely capable system that would be ideal for small combo jazz or classical music short of large orchestral pieces like Mahler symphonies."

Crafted around a solid engineering core, every Harbeth delivers an accurate and involving sound at home or in the studio and have no equal for clarity and detail. And they're built to literally last a lifetime.

Owning a Harbeth is, and has always been, a life-changing experience and you can be sure there's a model to perfectly match your listening environment and budget. All have that unique openness and musical insight which define a truly great listening experience. All Harbeth loudspeakers are hand assembled and individually tested in Lindfield, England.

The all-new RADIAL™ coned Harbeth P3ESR may be the ultimate mini monitor, the latest in a lineage that stretches back twenty years to the original Harbeth P3 and even further to the BBC's pioneering LS3/5A. A generation of home users and studio professionals have relied on these Harbeth minis to fill even the smallest room with a full, warm, and natural sound. The P3ESR is the culmination of four years’ research into upgrading the Harbeth mini.

From the new removable back panel for improved cabinet damping to the radically new woofer yielding a wide smooth frequency response, every detail of these astonishing loudspeakers has been thoroughly honed and optimized. The objective has always been to create the genuine Harbeth sound in miniature: the P3ESR (R for RADIAL™) is that much closer to reality.

Listening to the Harbeth P3ESR, I immediately forgot about the speakers themselves and became totally captivated by the music. Not bad for a shoe box sized enclosure priced at under $2,300 per pair.

My highest recommendation.

Whatever you ask of the Compact 7ES-3, it always delivers: perfectly. The clarity is spellbinding and brings the 'magic carpet ride' experience to the listening room in a medium-sized enclosure.

The world-class HL Compact 7ES-3 takes the ultra-clean Harbeth-exclusive RADIAL2™ cone technology to another performance level, and has been hugely successful for Harbeth throughout worldwide markets. Add to that the new 'Open Weave' tweeter, new cabinet internal wall-damping, and lowered port tune frequency and the result is more dynamic and greater transparency This medium-sized loudspeaker combines natural sound with a flair for reproducing any and every type of music from rock to opera, jazz through folk. This latest generation is the most open and enthralling Harbeth Compact ever.

The Harbeth secret for natural sound is the result of the meticulous attention to detail. In true BBC tradition, and regardless of cost, both the front and rear panels are removable to create a low inertia, low energy storage and hence low coloration cabinet. Sales in Japan, where the previous Compact was highly popular, have confirmed that this new generation of the much loved design is a great leap forward.

Critically important but hidden is the crossover. A thorough redesign, from the bottom-up, using new-technology software allowed even more time for critical listening to music and speech and to minute adjustment of balance and level. The result is improved integration of the drive units across a wider horizontal and vertical arc meaning that the Compact 7ES-3 is far less critical of stand height than many speakers of this size.
"The designer ... is particularly gifted at knowing how speakers actually behave in real rooms. The design and engineering of the Compact 7 is so solid and sophisticated... that it sounds absolutely wonderful, retaining its essential neutrality and natural tonal balance..."

Harbeth's Super HL5 is capable of fantastic performance - producing breathtaking transparency, a huge soundstage and total immersion in the performance. The speaker creates a rich bass and sweet midrange that brings acoustic music alive.

This is the sixth-generation of Dudley Harwood's HL-Monitor which launched the Harbeth brand in 1977 when he left the BBC's Research Department to form his own company.

Retaining the classic 'two cubic foot' proportions found in the very best BBC monitors, the HL5 relies on the exclusive Harbeth-made 200mm RADIAL bass/mid driver. This produces a big, warm and powerful sound that underpins the incredible midband clarity.

At the highest frequencies, the 20mm main tweeter is augmented by a SuperTweeter - combined these result in an extended, smooth and even dispersion right to the upper edge of the audio band                                                                                                      .
he cabinet is engineered in theBBC tradition of 'thin-wall' panels with removable front and back panels for a totally true-to-life sound.

As befits a proper monitor loudspeaker, the crossover is appropriately complex to give a smooth system response, accurate level setting between the drive units, and operation of each drive unit within its natural range. The rear panel features a pair of terminals with removeable biwire links.

"Never, at any price or design type, have I heard a speaker that so completely got out of the way and let the music speak for itself. Never have I heard a speaker that exceeds the HL5's ability to reveal the artistic quality of the music and its performance. Never have I heard a speaker that does so many of the fundamentals of music reproduction so right: timbre, rhythm, phrasing, articulation, parsing, dynamic flow, sound stage reconstruction, placement of instruments, and the delineation of the ambience of the recording site are all produced with an ease and natural-ness so convincing and so adept at evoking musical gestalts that immersion into the music was as easy as breathing."
