Since1977, Vandersteen Audio has designed and built linnovative loudspeakers using advanced concepts such as minimum-area baffles for driver mountings that virtually eliminate cabinet edge and grille diffraction anomalies and mass alignment of driver elements to insure proper time arrival. Like all vandersteen speakers,the 2CE Signature II utilizes their proven Vandersteen Aligned Dynamic Design to optimize the dispersion and transient accuracy of the drivers while maintaining the input signal's time and phase integrity. The drivers, their positioning and their associated minimum-area baffles were developed with the aid of FFT computer analysis to minimize diffraction, cone break-up, multi-driver interference and out-of-band phase irregularities. The construction, alignment and positioning of the drivers allow a point-source wave front and maximize the phase coherence of the loudspeaker at the listening position.

 

The Aligned Dynamic Design is used for the Model Two due to its many potential advantages:

As a result of this and Many other factors,Richard Vandersteen's 2Ce signature II is the most musical sounding dynamic, harmonically accurate speaker made for about $2,000/pair. It is, in fact, as good or better than 98% of the speakers I have heard which sell for $3,000 per pair. So, what is the catch? Why doesn't everyone who wants to hear music the way it should be heard in this price range own Vandersteen 2Ce Signature II's. Well, it is all a matter of "lifestyle" aesthetics. You see, in today's era of sleek, skinny, shiny, small rectangular speaker cabinets the Vandersteens seem rather large and imposing with their cloth wrapped internally open design. Yet, it is precisely the form of the Vandersteens which allow them to function so well at so modest a price. Think about it. No cabinet corners mean no cabinet diffraction, and no need to take heroic and expensive measures to dampen them out. No expensive wood or lack of veneer means lower overall cost. Form follows function, period. The same rule applies to Vandersteen's 1C speaker which also exceeds all performance standards of speakers in the $1000.00 per pair class.

Of course, you can get a much higher level of level of performance from modestly sized slim line wood/lacquer veneered speaker cabinets, but, only at a premium of 50-75% in cost. A perfect example is the Vandersteen Quatro. You can invest $6,995 for these world beating transducers in their cloth wrapped version. A wood veneered model with the same performance would cost about $8500.00! fortunately for those people for whom lokks are key, l the slim line beautifully finished wood iteration of the same speaker at $10,700 Pr.

The Vandersteen Quatro speakers provide superior performance by combining the 3a Signature and a pair of 2Wq subwoofers in a more esthetically pleasing enclosure, simplifying the setup procedure and presenting a less imposing presence in the room. The Vandersteen Quatro has many of the same attributes as the Model 5 without the cost of the veneered cabinet.

Enhanced performance is due to 11-band room compensation controls in each speaker allowing bass optimization in virtually any position in the room; newly designed 6.5-inch woven fiber cone mid-bass drivers for better resolution in the upper bass and lower midrange; constrained-layer enclosure structures derived from the legendary Vandersteen Model 5 speakers for reduced time smear; and the integration of powered subwoofer and main speaker. Performance Features

Exclusive tapered transmission-line loaded, ceramic-coated alloy dome tweeters extend frequency response to beyond 30kHz without the large peak at diaphragm resonance that can be observed in measurements of other products. Extended bandwidth allows a more accurate reproduction of musical timbre.

Patented Reflection-Free transmission-line loaded midrange drivers have curvilinear, mineral-filled polycone diaphragms and no reflective magnet structures that blur transients and imaging. These exclusive Vandersteen drivers allow an even dispersion pattern over the entire frequency spectrum for ease of placement and provide midrange resolution that can't be achieved by speaker systems that rely on woofers to produce important midrange frequencies and simply omit the midrange drivers. These superior midrange drivers provide a more natural musical presentation and better imaging.

Improved mid-bass and lower midrange frequencies are delivered by newly designed 6.5-inch woofers with woven fiber cones and precision-formed magnet assemblies, including copper faraday rings. These drivers are limited to a frequency range of 100Hz-900Hz, where their performance is optimal, allowing better transient response and definition.

Deep bass (20Hz-100Hz) in each Quatro speaker is handled by dual, 8-inch drivers with carbon-loaded cellulose cones and ultra-long throw motor assemblies. Purpose-designed 250-watt Class B linear amplifiers and 11-band room compensation controls are combined with Vandersteen's exclusive Passive High-Pass' subwoofer integration system for a periodic response and deep bass that conventional speaker systems can't duplicate. Room compensation controls, in conjunction with bass level contour controls, allow the speakers to be placed where they image best and the bass to be optimized in that position.
