DeVore Fidelity

Founded by president and chief designer John DeVore in 2000, DeVore Fidelity has gone on to receive universal acclaim for every one if its products, and John continues to push the state of the art in speaker design.

John brought his 30 years of experience as a musician, 20 years of designing speakers and 18 years of hi-fi industry experience to his company, and, as the Stereophile Newsletter put it in 2005, “DeVore Fidelity is a young company, but at Home Entertainment Shows and CESes over the last half decade, its products have pulled down critical kudos and consumer raves that more established companies would kill for.”

They are revealing of the qualities of the audio chain which is connected to them, but are not in any way finicky about the kind of power to which you connect them. SET tube amps and 25 watt class A integerated amps (like the Vitus Audio SS-010, which is a combination to die for with the Silver Backs!) or 400 watt mono behemoths, all are appropriate. With such versatility and quality it is not hard to see why the Silverbacks have joined the short list of our favorite speakers.

The gibbon 3, the third generation of the original gibbon, is the smallest speaker to use the unique gibbon crossover and rewards with stunning delicacy and nuance. Microdynamics are lightning quick and imaging is second to none. For a loudspeaker of its diminutive size, the gibbon 3 has impressive bass output and a natural and expressive tonal balance. The gibbon design presents a stable load to an amplifier, allowing this state-of-the-art compact speaker to be easily driven, even by low-powered amplifiers.

The floor-standing gibbon 8 is a medium-sized, two-way speaker. Like the rest of the gibbons, the 8s have an open and transparent midrange, and to this they add a rich and powerful bass.

Their perfect balance of warmth and transparency communicates the emotional range of music with unrivaled intimacy at this price.

These speakers reproduce a deep, wide soundstage with realistic image placement, without demanding intricate set-up or placement. The gibbon design enables them to be driven easily by low-powered amps.

As good as the the Gibbon 8s are, they do not hold a candle to the Super 8s recently introduced by devore into the product line. The Super 8's are housed in a cabinet of the same size as the 8's but with better internal bracing.

The Super  8s use a newly desigend tweeter and significantly improved crossover. The result is mind blowing!

As Jeff Dorgay observed in Tone Audio:
"Everything about the Super 8s says understated elegance. These are very beautiful, yet simple looking speakers and should fit well in just about any décor; wife acceptance factor is very high with these babies!"

I have heard and owned quite a few speakers in the $3-4000 category over the years and I must say that the Super 8s are my favorite offering yet in this range. What really turns me on about these speakers is the refinement of the sound I’ve been hearing. Bass is solid and deep with very good detail and they go right up through to the highest of the highs in a very seductive way.

This is a speaker that is extremely musical and possesses a real freedom from grain that allows you to listen for hours on end with no fatigue at all.

An entirely new speaker from the ground up, "THE NINES" draw you into the music like few speakers at any price do. Wonderfully nuanced, the NINES make the music more involving, more focused and make you want to listen

longer and to more different kinds of music than any speaker I have heard in their price range. If there is a more musical speaker overall than the NINES under $10,000 per pair, WE HAVE NOT HEARD THEM!
