More than a high end audio manufacturer , Vitus Audio's credo is based on the principle espoused by Hans Ole Vitus, its founder: THE BEST RELATIONSHIPS IN THE WORLD WORK IN TRUE HARMONY, TRUE BALANCE AND OF COURSE - TRUE LOVE. The stronger the relationship, the more exceptional and rewarding the results . Vitus Audio is a fine example of this. Applying this ethos to the work at hand is how Viitus creates its incredible oeuvres. The Vitus team asks themselves: How will one selected part work with another, what happens if we add more than one, how does the chassis effect the delicate signal, what happens if we twist a cable and so on.
After a long, exhaustive process, they create something that is far greater than the sum of its parts. Each part on its own is the best of its type, but bring them together and you have at the very heart of each Vitus product a finely tuned ‘emotion engine’. Vitus Audio consists of a family of specialist Hi-Fi components for your living space, which include: amplifiers, CD player and cables. Each will bring you closer to your music and give you a lifetime of listening.
Vitus Audio products are created for the music and not for a price point. Many of the parts used in their components are custom designed and made for Vitus Audio, simply because most of today’s off the shelf parts do not meet the strict engineering tolerances that they demand.
The result is a collection of audio components which stand comfortably in the front row of that small group of Artisinal hifi studios which express the art of music in the art of their creations . Is Vitus the best? I cannot tell you whether Soulution, Zanden, Kondo or Vitus make the best sounding amplification any more I can tell you that going from 0-150mph is more realistic in a Ferrari, Bugatti or Lamborghini. I can tell you that listening through Vitus is as good as it gets and that the difference between Vitus, Zanden, Soulution and Kondo is one of nuance not quality.
Fortunately, Vitus quality starts at a price significantly lower than the others with the Vitus SS-010 pure Class A integrated amp. Under $20,000 and only 25 watts per channel, the critically acclaimed SS-010 drives most speakers to reasonable volume levels with a veracity that is mind boggling.
Add a world class preamp like the Vitus SL-010 and the SS-010 becomes a wonderful power amp , but it had better be world class because the on-board input circuitry of the SS-010 puts most highly touted preamps to shame! If more power is needed, the SS-010 is availible as a 100 watt class A/B amp (called the SS-050) or as 40 watt Class A (or 100 watt Class A/B, user switchable) mono block amplifiers, the SM-010.
The SS-101 exemplifies the edge of the art in stereo amplification, outputting 50 watts class A or 100 watts class A/B of pure transparent music power (user switchable). We have yet to find a speaker that the SS-101 cannot seduce into perfect rapture, but for those of us who cannot exist without the ultimate power source, consider the Vitus SM-101 monblock amplifiers. With 100 watts pure Class A power, the SM-101 sound defies characterization other than to say it is sublime!
Vitus addresses the preamplifier with two outstanding components, the SL-010 and SL-101. The SL-101 has been described in hushed tones of lavish praise by the handful of reviewers who have had a chance to hear it as near-invisible, sonically speaking, adding straight wire with gain. The SL-101 is the outcome of many years of dedicated efforts by designer Hans-Ole Vitus. From the very start, his aim has been to bring out the best in musical recordings, using his experience as a musician.
||The SL-101 is based on brand new circuitry which uses only matched transistors and super-precision resistors to ensure optimal working conditions for the different stages of each module. This, combined with a special coupling of each input stage, results in an ultra linear frequency response. The true balanced design, together with the local shunt-regulated power supply, ensures an excellent signal to noise ratio, making it possible to reveal every micro detail within recordings.
The result is an exceptional preamplifier capable of exposing micro details/dynamics never heard before without compromising the coherence of the recording. As the design is true balanced, all non-balanced signals are converted to true balanced at the first input stage. One of the challenges of true balanced amplifiers is the volume control, as even very small tolerances easily translate into distortion. The current trend employed in many other designs is a digital volume control of some sort. However, Hans-Ole Vitus is not content with fashion.
The volume control of the SL-101 is unique in the industry because there is only one resistor in series with the signal at any volume level. Placing more resistors in the signal path than actually needed (regardless of method; digital or analog) only creates room for more distortion. Vitus Audio believes this approach yields the optimal performance for the SL-101, and the result is an analog relay based volume control, signified by an ultra short signal path with no sound coloration and zero limitation of the dynamics.
The more affordable SL-010 is a smaller version of the SL-101. Using much of the ideas/technology from the SL-101, the SL-010 also employs matched transistors and super-precision resistors to ensure optimal working conditions for the different stages of each module. This, combined with a special coupling of each input stage, results in an ultra linear frequency response.
The design, together with the local shunt regulated power supply, ensures an excellent signal to noise ratio, making it possible to reveal every micro-detail in recordings.
Utilizing the same unique method of volume control as the SL-101, SL-010 also exposes micro details/dynamics never heard before without compromising the coherence of the recording. All in all, Vitus Audio represents a vital step forward in the reproduction of music at its purest and most realistic.
